If there is one thing I believe firmly about human beings it is that our time here on earth can be full of struggle, but we are not our problems. To put it more succinctly–
Our problems are beacons guiding us toward wholeness.
Imagine that for a moment.
What would it be like to stop pathologizing yourself and accept that when you get stuck, sad, or overwhelmed, your awareness of this imbalance is a blessing?
Moreover, your problems are not who you are.
Think of what you're struggling with as the CHECK ENGINE light
on the dashboard of your soul.
When this warning light comes on in our cars, what do we do? Declare the thing broken and ditch it on the side of the road? Of course not. We take it to the mechanic and get the issue sorted.
Recognizing that we are out of alignment (i.e., we feel stuck in a bad relationship or job; we feel we have no purpose in life; we have a habit that's holding us back from being our best selves), is a gift we receive from our Highest Self. It's saying, “Hey! Something's off. Let's get that looked at.”
No judgment. Nothing personal.
Your “mechanic” in this situation can be a therapist, counselor, coach, or spiritual advisor. But unlike with your car, you don't drop your Self off at the service station and go have a cup of cocoa while the mechanic works on you. You need to take an active role in your realignment.
Who else will know for sure when you're running smoothly again? You will.
Because You are the authority on your Self.
It's with this approach that I invite you to—
Check in with your Self regularly. What’s going on in your body? Do a scan.
Ask yourself—out loud—How are you doing, darlin’? What do you need right now?
Seek help when you need it, knowing that it is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength to take care of your Self in a sacred way.
That kindness and care will keep your engine running smoothly for your long, beautiful road trip in this lifetime. 🏜️
